Finger tip amputations
Finger tip amputations are quite common. This person lost the tips of his fingers while working around the house. Most persons lose finger tips while cutting things with knives that do not have locking blades, or in a door slammed onto the fingers. Treatment (first aid) - Use dressings to cover the tips, and elevate the injured hand. A cool pack may be used near the point of injury to help reduce the amount of pain the person feels. Find the amputated parts, put them in a plastic bag or exam glove, and place them ON something cool or cold....do not put the parts IN ice or it may cause a 2nd or 3rd degree burn of the finger tips and they can not be reattached. By keeping the amputated parts cool, the injured person has a chance of having them reattached. Do not soak the amputated parts in water as they may become water logged and might not be able to be reattached. Look up first aid items here at Drugstore.com
